BROOKLYN, Mich. — The second race of the AARN Truck Series Chase may have featured no cautions, but it delivered one of the most important championship shakeups of the postseason so far.
Over 70 laps at Michigan International Speedway, drivers battled through long green-flag runs, fuel strategy, and constant position changes in a race where every point mattered. By night’s end, the championship fight had tightened considerably, setting the stage for a pivotal showdown at Darlington Raceway.
While Jordane Whyte crossed the finish line first overall, the bigger story centered around the Chase contenders and the battle for the AARN Truck Series championship.
Green Flag Racing From Start to Finish
Michigan produced one of the cleanest races of the season.
The race featured 13 lead changes, zero cautions, and only a single driver failing to reach the finish.
Without caution periods to regroup the field, drivers were forced to earn every position under green. Long-run speed became critical, and mistakes were amplified because there were no yellow flags to erase deficits.
The only driver unable to finish the event was Corey Powell, whose night came to an abrupt end after contact with the wall early in the race. Powell became the lone DNF of the evening as the rest of the field completed the race distance.
Boyd Gains Ground in the Championship Fight
Among the Chase drivers, Brian J. Boyd may have had the most productive night.
Boyd brought home a runner-up finish and collected 42 championship points, allowing him to significantly reduce Howard Peeples’ advantage atop the standings.
With only two races remaining after Michigan, every point gained becomes increasingly valuable, and Boyd leaves the Irish Hills as the closest challenger to the championship leader.
Peeples Continues to Set the Pace
Regular season champion Howard Peeples once again showed why he entered the playoffs as the top seed.
The No. 29 truck led a race-high 34 laps, more than any other driver, and remained a factor throughout the evening before ultimately finishing sixth.
While Peeples did surrender some ground to Boyd in the standings, he leaves Michigan still in control of the championship battle with Darlington looming.
Strong Runs Keep Title Hope Alive
Several Chase contenders delivered exactly the kind of performance they needed heading into the final half of the playoffs.
Dana Shepard recorded one of his strongest runs of the season, finishing third and collecting valuable points.
Elijah Maupin rebounded nicely after a difficult opening Chase race, bringing home fourth and keeping himself mathematically alive in the championship battle.
Meanwhile, Douglas Scalice, Daryl W. Johnson, Shawn Hughes, and Gary May all added valuable points to their playoff totals and remain firmly in contention entering Darlington.
With no cautions to create chaos, Michigan became a race of execution, consistency, and patience—qualities that will become even more important as the championship battle intensifies.
Chase Standings After Michigan
Two races down. Two races remaining.
The championship picture entering Darlington:
| Pos | Driver | Points | Behind |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Howard Peeples | 1141 | Leader |
| 2 | Brian J. Boyd | 1124 | -17 |
| 3 | Douglas Scalice | 1102 | -38 |
| 4 | Daryl W. Johnson | 1101 | -39 |
| 5 | Shawn Hughes | 1090 | -51 |
| 6 | Elijah Maupin | 1084 | -57 |
| 7 | Joseph Essenberg | 1074 | -67 |
| 8 | Gary May | 1061 | -80 |
The biggest story heading into Darlington is the battle at the top.
Peeples remains the leader, but Boyd’s runner-up finish cut the deficit to just 17 points. Scalice and Johnson remain within striking distance as well, creating a legitimate four-driver battle entering the final two races.
Darlington Awaits
Now the Truck Series heads to one of the most demanding tracks in all of racing.
Darlington Raceway has a reputation for rewarding patience while punishing mistakes, making it the perfect setting for a championship fight. With only Homestead-Miami remaining after Darlington, drivers are quickly running out of opportunities to make up ground.
One bad night could end a title run.
One great night could put a driver in position to race for a championship.
Michigan may not have delivered caution-filled drama, but it brought the championship contenders closer together than ever.
And with two races remaining, the fight for the AARN Truck Series title is just beginning.
