AARN Truck Series Chase Race #3 Recap

Peeples Takes Command at Darlington, Championship Within Reach

With just one race remaining in the AARN Truck Series Chase, Howard Peeples may have delivered the performance that all but locked up the championship Wednesday night at Darlington Raceway.

In a race defined by patience, tire management, and survival at one of NASCAR’s toughest tracks, Peeples led 44 of 80 laps and drove his No. 29 truck to Victory Lane, earning maximum points and extending his Chase advantage heading into the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Darlington’s reputation as “Too Tough To Tame” was on full display. The field battled the wall throughout the evening, but remarkably kept incidents to a minimum. The lone caution of the race came late when Marc Bender spun his No. 33 truck in a solo incident, setting up one final sprint to the finish.

Peeples Extends the Gap

Entering the night with a healthy lead, Peeples wasted little time asserting himself as the driver to beat. After starting second, he quickly worked his way to the front and controlled much of the event, collecting bonus points for leading the most laps and securing the race victory.

The win gives Peeples 1,185 points and a 34-point advantage over Brian J. Boyd entering the final race of the Chase.

Boyd’s Championship Hopes Take a Major Hit

While Peeples enjoyed nearly a perfect night, Brian J. Boyd endured the exact opposite.

The second-place driver in the Chase standings suffered problems on the opening lap that left him playing catch-up for the remainder of the race. Boyd eventually recovered to finish 10th, but the damage was done.

What was already an uphill battle entering Darlington became significantly steeper, as Boyd now trails by 34 points with only Homestead remaining.

Scalice Rebounds in a Big Way

One of the night’s biggest stories belonged to Douglas Scalice.

After a difficult outing at Michigan left him needing a strong response, Scalice delivered exactly that. The No. 16 truck stayed near the front throughout the evening and crossed the line third, earning one of his best Chase performances.

The result moves Scalice to third in the Chase standings, 47 points behind Peeples, and keeps him mathematically alive heading into Homestead.

Tight Battle Behind the Leader

While Peeples stretched his advantage, the fight behind him remains intense.

Shawn Hughes continued his consistent Chase with a fourth-place finish and now sits fourth in points. Elijah Maupin recovered from earlier Chase struggles to bring home fifth and climb back into contention for a top-five championship finish.

Joseph Essenberg quietly recorded another solid night in sixth, while Daryl Johnson slipped to seventh in the standings after finishing outside the top five.

Looking Ahead: Homestead-Miami

The championship battle now heads south for the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Peeples enters the final race with a commanding 34-point cushion and is firmly in control of his championship destiny. Boyd, Scalice, Hughes, and the rest of the Chase field will need a near-perfect race — and some help — if they hope to prevent Peeples from completing the job.

One race remains. One championship is still on the line.
