The inaugural AARN Truck Series season came to a dramatic conclusion Wednesday night at Homestead-Miami Speedway, and after four Chase races, Howard Peeples stood atop the mountain as the Season 1 AARN Truck Series Champion.
It was far from an easy night.
With the championship on the line, Homestead delivered exactly what fans expected—multiple lead changes, strategy, cautions, and a championship battle that wasn’t decided until the closing laps. Eight different lead changes kept drivers constantly fighting for position, while three cautions and nine caution laps repeatedly reset the field and created late-race drama.
When the dust settled, it was Dana Shepard who captured the race victory, leading a race-high 41 laps while collecting bonus points for the win, most laps led, and leading at least one lap. However, all eyes remained on the championship fight unfolding behind him.
Howard Peeples entered the finale as the points leader and answered every challenge throughout the evening. Despite finishing second, Peeples stayed out of trouble, earned a bonus point for leading laps, and secured the consistency needed to officially lock up the championship.
Behind him, Douglas Scalice put together another impressive drive, finishing third to cap off a strong Chase run. Brian J. Boyd crossed the line fourth, while Elijah Maupin completed the top five after battling near the front throughout much of the night.
Several contenders experienced adversity throughout the event. Daryl W. Johnson, who entered Homestead still mathematically alive in the championship hunt, faded to ninth after leading 24 laps earlier in the race. Joseph Essenberg rounded out the top ten after battling handling issues during the closing stages.
