After Race 6 – Darlington Raceway
Darlington Raceway didn’t just test drivers — it reshaped the AARN Power Rankings.
Race 6 at “The Lady in Black” forced a clear separation between raw speed, race execution, and full-season consistency. While some drivers capitalized on the moment, others proved that one race isn’t enough to erase a strong body of work.
With six races complete, the championship picture is beginning to take real shape.
🏆 Tier 1 — Championship Favorites
🥇 1. Shawn Hughes ⬆️
Last Race: 1st (Darlington Winner)
Hughes delivered the kind of performance that defines a championship contender.
A clean race (0 incidents) at Darlington, combined with a perfectly timed late-race move, allowed him to take down the fastest car in the field. This wasn’t luck — it was execution under pressure.
With that win, Hughes now firmly plants himself at the top of the rankings.
🥈 2. Coulter Clark ⬇️
R4: Win | R5: Win | R6: 4th
Clark’s momentum cools slightly, but not enough to remove him from the top tier.
Back-to-back wins still carry major weight, and a 4th-place finish at Darlington shows continued consistency. He remains one of the most complete drivers in the field.
🥉 3. Chris Romano ➡️
Season: Top 10 in every race
Romano may not have won recently, but no driver has been more consistently competitive.
With finishes near the front every week, Romano continues to build one of the strongest championship foundations in the series. A 7th-place run at Darlington keeps that streak alive.
⚔️ Tier 2 — Weekly Contenders
4. Kameron M. Combs ⬆️
Last Race: 2nd (63 laps led, fastest lap)
Combs had the fastest car at Darlington — no question.
Leading 63 laps and setting the fastest lap of the race, he controlled much of the event before finishing second. The speed is there every week.
Now the focus shifts to converting that speed into wins.
5. Jordane Whyte ⬇️
R3: Win | R5: 2nd | R6: 8th
Whyte takes a slight step back after a quieter Darlington performance.
Still, a win and multiple strong finishes keep him firmly inside the contender tier. He remains one of the most reliable front-runners in the series.
6. Robert Hissong ⬆️
R5: 3rd | R6: 3rd (28 laps led)
Hissong is putting together one of the most impressive stretches in the field.
Back-to-back podiums and 28 laps led at Darlington show that he’s not just consistent — he’s capable of controlling races.
📈 Tier 3 — Solid Performers
7. Kristopher Foote ⬆️
R5: 6th | R6: 6th
Foote continues to quietly build momentum.
Back-to-back 6th-place finishes and steady forward movement show a driver becoming increasingly reliable week-to-week.
8. Zackery King ⬆️
Last Race: 5th
King breaks into the rankings after a strong Darlington run.
A clean race and a Top 5 finish show that he can compete with the front group when the race plays out in his favor.
9. Gregory Vadnais ⬇️
Consistent, but lacking a breakout performance recently.
Vadnais remains inside the Top 10 due to steady results, though others are beginning to close the gap.
🔟 Justin Young ⬇️
Early-season success keeps him in the rankings, but recent races have not reinforced that momentum.
He remains dangerous — but needs a strong run soon to stay inside the Top 10.
👀 Just Missed (11–14)
11. Tony Creager ⬆️
Darlington: 9th (Started 23rd, +14)
One of the drives of the season.
Creager carved through the field at Darlington, gaining 14 positions. The performance proves he has the racecraft — now he needs consistency to break into the Top 10.
12. Matt Oplinger ⬆️
Darlington: 10th (Started 24th, +14)
Matched Creager’s charge through the field.
A breakout performance, but still waiting on a larger body of work. Another strong finish would quickly move him into the rankings.
13. Matthew McMeekin ⬇️
Showed dominant speed earlier in the season, but recent races haven’t matched that level.
Still a threat — but needs a rebound.
14. Douglas Scalice ⬇️
Vegas showed his upside. Darlington showed the inconsistency.
Right on the edge of re-entering the Top 10 with another strong performance.
